Do you still do anything with Modern Jive? Modern Jive Mania doesn't exist. Modern Jive US doesn't exist. Cerocwiki doesn't exist. I really miss Modern Jive. It is easy to learn, and it provides a way to do partner dancing to rock music. For several years there were Modern Jive dances and classes in New York, but they ended several years ago. The most recent locations were St. Jean Baptiste Church then Empire Dance Studios (which has closed). There was even a Yahoo group. Attendance was very big about 10 years ago but declined, especially after it moved to Empire. If there were someone to teach and run it, I think we could get people to come. One problem may be the cost of renting space. I don't know of any dance school that teaches it.

If you are interested in dance schools, check Dance Manhattan (free Guest Night once a month) and You Should Be Dancing. It is possible to dance Modern Jive at Dance Manhattan's Guest Night. Maybe those of us who are interested can meet there.

There will be Modern Jive Le Roc Dances in New York on October 12, November 9, and December 14.

Le Roc

Come dance Le Roc, a partner dance that is a derivative of swing/jive.

It is danced to most types of popular music and is extremely useful at weddings.



Venue: 268 Mulberry St. between Houston St. and Prince St. (St. Pat's Youth Center)

Date: Friday October 12th, 2012

Time: 7-10:00pm

Le Roc is a combination of French Jive and Rock-n-roll. It was developed in France, aimed at those who want to have fun with dancing but don't necessarily want to spend much time and effort to learn dance technique. The dance reached mainstream popularity in the U.K. In the US, it is relatively new.



The basic program is a beginner's instruction session from 7:15-8:00pm followed by freestyle dancing with a more advanced lesson from 8:30-9pm followed by more freestyle dancing.



Come early for pizza. Cash bar for drinks.



Many of the organizers attend Redeemer Presbyterian, Emmanuel Presbyterian or are from the Young Adults of the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. Funds raised go toward restoration work of the Basilica's historic landmark properties (hence the tax-deductible tickets).
