I love it, a song about a guy asking his possibly ex-girlfriend to show whether she still wants him or not *because he's been away in PRISON* was used in "Gulf War I" to show support for troops etc etc. Personally, I think people could be more original and more sensitive to the lyrics :-)

Well, there's alwasy the foxtrot based on the "Le Parapluie de Cherbourg" theme... it's got it all - easy war that turns into a colonial quagmire, girlfriend who (despite the lyrics) doesn't wait, etc...

Details.

Did you know that this tradition actually started way back in the olden days? Women would wear ribbons while their men were off to war. Each branch of service had its own color, but eventually everyone started wearing the cavalry's color of yellow.
