cha cha chicaJump up and dance!
Just a general inquiry ... does anyone have any songs that they just can't help but jump up and dance to?
Mind are:
Oyo Como Va (any version) - INCOMING CHA-CHA!!!
Bailamos, Enrique
Whenever Wherever, Shakira
Shame I can't samba worth a damn (go figure, I that is what happens when you don't take lesson in samba!).

depends on my mood, but some favorites include:
ya ya ya ya(rumba)
rumkalo(sp?, samba)
cult of snap(samba)
pata pata(cha cha)
Let's get loud(cha cha)
Two socks at play(waltz)
Theme from Papillon(waltz)
a few others which I recognize the music, but don't remember the name.

on the 6Yeah, you are right about pata pata & let's get loud. I can't sit still on those 2.
Another favourite chacha is sway, not the old dean Martin version, but the 2-year old club version. I still play it often.
There are many great samba songs, old and new, out there.
cha cha chica, you should take at least a couple of lessons on samba to take advantage of all those great songs.
The newer ones:
La bomba by King Africa
E-O-Zumba-E by King Africa
Toma Que Toma by Los Ninos
La Vida Es Un Carnaval
The older ones:
Collegiala
Chasumba
El baile de osito
Coco jumbo
Baila baila comigo
Ne'er can I keep my body from moving when "Toma Ketama" by Ketama is playing.
Nor can I keep my lips from singing when "Dub Dub Dubi Dubi" is playing.

on the 6I find it interesting that
in this part of town, in clubs & school,
"Jack is back"(clan) is played as mambo, not jive,
while "La bomba"(the version by Ricky Martin)
is played as salsa/mambo, not samba.
Are there any other song like that ?

Is Jive really considered a social dance in the environment in question? It doesn't seem to be very popular here in Boston, except when collegiate ballroomers wander into clubs (to the apparent annoyance of those who favor other swing forms). Wheras a street-style mambo basic is pretty darn simple to do at almost any tempo...
