Hi, I'm new here. I have competition coming up next weekend and I bought a pre-owned latin costume that is heavily stoned. It smells like cigarettes really bad and I want to clean it before I wear it. How do you clean something like this? Is it a drycleanable thing or do you wash it by hand? Please help as I am running out of time!!! Thanks!

Don't know about any other elements of the costume. Lycra spandex may be washed in cool water and mild detergent. Dry cleaning will destroy the stoning, for sure. Try diluted shampoo, by hand, in a sink.
Probably folks are hesitant to reply because there could be any number of fabrics, trims, and decorations on your costume that may shrink, run, or become damaged, when wet with water. I know glue for stones is dissolved with dry cleaning.
Without examining your costume, it's really hard to say what to do so it won't be ruined.
You might try Fabreeze, too.

Hi and welcome. I hand wash mine using a laundry detergent made for fine fabrics. I wash my partners the same way.
