Hi everybody. I am new to the forum, and I'd like to ask you guys for some advice/suggestions. I have practiced ballet when I was a kid, and modern/jazz later, in hs and college. now I am 32, and I'd like to take some adult ballet classes. The main reason is that I hope it'll help me with my posture and with my back problems (form time to time I have to work for 14 hours a day, standing, and after 2 or 3 days of this my back kills me, probably b/c I can't mantain a correct posture for all that time). I am still pretty flexible, as I have kept practicing the stretches, but I haven't been in calss for at leats 10 years! I have talked to the teacher at a local school, and she suggested me to start with a beginner's class. Is there anything you'd suggest me to do, or which I should know before starting again? Is there any counter-indications for doing it? Thanks for the help!!!

Hi Ico. If you prefer to take ballet because you love it, then do go an adult beginners' class, if it really is a basic class where you can work technically correctly.
If you don't HAVE to do ballet, I woould suggest learning THe Slow Burn technique before you pick any kind of exercise, be it ballet, PIlates or yoga for example.
I'm a retired ballet teacher and I've learned PIlates and Yoga, which I love. However, when I read Slow Burn by Frederick Hahn, I decided to learn it. It is a regimen that reverses your metabolism - not that you aren't young, let's say it would maintain yours well as you get older - but it seems to me it's the quickest muscle strengthener regimen that will prepare you for other exercises - and this may not make total sense, but if you read the book you'll understand why I'd suggest this.
Have fun and enjoy, whatever you decide!
