I'm basing this advice on somethings my teacher's professional partner has said to another Pro/Am student of his...don't wear the metallic shoes. If the taupe is close to your tanned-up skin color, then I'd say go with that. The other option is to follow the current fashion of wearing black shoes with black fishnets. Does that work with your dress? Also, ask your instructor which of the two options he thinks will work better. Even if he's wrong at least he can't complain about it if you ask :-)

I'm with Laura on this. The idea is to try to extend your leg line & make it look as long as possible. That's why nude/tan shoes are ideal; but if taupe is the closest match you have available to your skin color, and the black hose/black shoes option doesn't work for your costume, then go with the taupe. Metallic shoes tend to give that "Minnie Mouse" look of the feet standing out too much & looking too large in proportion to the leg.

Black hose/black shoes is never a good option.

I had heard that ice skaters wear the nude skates to elongate their legs and wasn't sure if that's why dancer's do it as well. My legs are actually pretty long already, so definitely don't need help in that department. I will speak to my instructor, but I'm guessing he'll probably say the "taupe" as well. I'm going to put a call in to the shoe place that I get my shoes from just in case I can implore them to get them to me inside of 2 weeks. Normally it has taken around 8-10 (very frustrating). I tried ordering some nice Eckse shoes, but their narrow is unfortunately not narrow enough. Does anyone else have this issue? I'd be curious to know what kind of shoes do actually work on narrow feet!
Thanks again for the tips! I didn't want to jinx our good fortune here, but this thread has actually proceeded along with not one single sarcastic comment. I probably just did us in, though!

They look great to me. I hope they work out for you!
You are getting them in tan satin, right?

Yes, tan/satin. Please keep your fingers crossed that they fit! And thanks for the advice. I might have gone with gold shoes. How awful would that have been????!!!

I've seen gold look OK on the floor - it's definitely better than silver, which really does stand out and make the feet look larger. But I agree that nude is the best option.

If it were me, I would probably go with the taupe shoes with a blue dress, but that is me. If the taupe color is somewhat close to your skin tone, even with the icky fake tan stuff, I'd go for it, but thats me. Maybe somebody else here will have a better sugestion for you. Hope this helps.
